Problem

Is there any way to place all 16 chess pieces of one color on a board
such that none are attacking each other?

Also: is it possible to place all 32 pieces on the board such that all
the black pieces are under attack and none of the white pieces are
attacked, either by black pieces or by themselves?
Show solution
Here is a solution I thought up. In this, there are no unattacked squares.

, . , R , . , .

N p . , . , p p

, . , . , R , .

. , . , . , . p

B B , . K . , N

. , . , . , . p

p . , . p . , p

. , Q , . , . ,

Note that this satisfies two of the regular chess conditions which were
not mentioned in the puzzle.
a. Bishops should attack squares of different colors.
b. There cannot be any pawns in the bottom row.

I found one other solution which violates one of these rules.

For the 32-piece question: I do not know the solution, I am looking
for one.
