Problem
An equidistant word is one in which the first and last, second and second to last, third and third to last, etc. letters are the same "distance" apart from opposite ends. What equidistant words are there? [ Editor: the distance is counted from the two ends of the alphabet: in WIZARD, W and D are each fourth from an end, I and R ninth, Z and A first. The question is reconstructed from the part quoted in the reply; it mentioned BY and one other word. ]
Show solution
I find 27 such words (including 'by' and I suspect, your other one):
bevy by fu girt grit
hivers hols hovels ir izar
klop levo lo lolo ol
polk ri sh trig ve
vire vole wird wizard wold
za zira
